Description
Permabond UV639 UV-Curing Adhesive for Plastics
Permabond UV639 is a clear, flexible UV-curing adhesive specifically developed for bonding plastics including acrylic, polycarbonate, PETG and PET. It provides fast cure on demand, excellent optical clarity and high elongation, making it ideal for applications where both bond strength and appearance are important.
UV639 offers excellent adhesion to a range of transparent plastics and can also be used for bonding glass, metals and other materials. Once cured, the adhesive forms a colourless, highly transparent bond, making it particularly suitable for displays, signs, lighting components, decorative assemblies and other applications where the adhesive joint needs to remain virtually invisible.
Key Features
- Excellent adhesion to acrylic, polycarbonate, PETG and PET
- Highly transparent, colourless cured adhesive
- UV cure on demand
- Very fast fixture when used with a suitable UV or LED curing lamp
- High elongation for improved flexibility
- Low shrinkage
- Suitable for plastic-to-plastic bonding
- Can also bond plastics to glass and metal
- Ideal for applications where aesthetics are important
- Single-component adhesive with no mixing required
Typical Applications
Permabond UV639 is particularly suited to applications including:
- Acrylic and Perspex® fabrication
- Polycarbonate assemblies
- PETG bonding
- Clear plastic components
- Point-of-sale displays
- Signs and display cases
- Lighting components
- Decorative plastic assemblies
- Plastic-to-glass bonding
- Plastic-to-metal bonding
- Transparent components where a clear bond line is required
Materials Bonded
Permabond UV639 demonstrates excellent adhesion to:
Polycarbonate: >8 N/mm² overlap shear strength
Acrylic / PMMA: >6 N/mm² overlap shear strength
PETG: >7 N/mm² overlap shear strength
PET: >5 N/mm² overlap shear strength
PMMA to Glass: >8 N/mm² block shear strength
UV639 may also be suitable for bonding glass, metals and other substrates. Testing on the actual materials is recommended before production use.

Why Choose Permabond UV639?
Many conventional UV adhesives are optimised primarily for glass bonding. Permabond UV639 has been specifically developed to provide excellent adhesion to plastics, including some of the most commonly used transparent engineering plastics.
Its combination of high transparency, low shrinkage and high elongation makes it particularly useful where rigid adhesives could place excessive stress on plastic components or leave a visually obvious bond line.
UV639 is therefore an excellent choice for manufacturers working with acrylic, polycarbonate and PETG components where rapid production and a clean, professional appearance are required.
How to Use Permabond UV639
Ensure the surfaces being bonded are clean, dry and free from grease or contamination.
Apply a small quantity of UV639 to one bonding surface and assemble the components. Expose the adhesive joint to a suitable UV or LED curing lamp within the recommended 365–420 nm wavelength range.
At least one substrate must allow sufficient UV light to reach the adhesive for effective curing.
Cure time will vary depending on the lamp used, its intensity and wavelength, the distance between the lamp and component, adhesive thickness and the UV transmission characteristics of the substrate.
For LED curing systems, the peak wavelength of the lamp should be checked for compatibility with the adhesive.
