Description

Permabond TA4204 is a high performance 2-part toughened acrylic adhesive designed for structural bonding of metals, plastics, composites, and many other materials. Supplied in a convenient 400ml cartridge with a 1:1 mix ratio, this methacrylate adhesive provides fast curing at room temperature and develops high shear, peel, and impact strength.

TA4204 bonds a wide variety of substrates including aluminium, steel, GRP, ABS, PVC, ceramics, glass, wood and engineering plastics. The adhesive offers excellent adhesion even to unprepared aluminium, reducing the need for complex surface preparation in many applications.

This toughened acrylic adhesive has good gap filling ability and provides durable bonds with excellent chemical resistance and impact strength. It can be dispensed through a static mixing nozzle or applied bead-on-bead without a nozzle, making it suitable for both workshop use and production environments.

Permabond TA4204 is widely used in automotive, engineering, marine, construction, and industrial assembly where high strength structural bonding is required.

FAQ – Permabond TA4204 Toughened Acrylic Adhesive

What is Permabond TA4204 used for?

Permabond TA4204 is a two-part methacrylate structural adhesive used for high strength bonding of metals, plastics, composites and engineering materials. It is commonly used in automotive, marine, construction, fabrication and industrial assembly where a fast curing, durable bond is required.

What type of adhesive is Permabond TA4204?

TA4204 is a toughened acrylic (methacrylate) adhesive. This type of adhesive provides high shear strength, good peel resistance and strong impact performance, making it suitable for structural bonding and load-bearing applications.

What materials can Permabond TA4204 bond?

Permabond TA4204 bonds a wide range of materials including aluminium, steel, stainless steel, ABS, PVC, GRP, composites, ceramics, glass, wood and many engineering plastics. It is ideal for bonding dissimilar materials such as metal to plastic or composite to metal.

Does Permabond TA4204 bond aluminium?

Yes, TA4204 provides excellent adhesion to aluminium, even with minimal surface preparation. In many cases the adhesive can bond unprepared aluminium, although cleaning and light abrasion will give the best strength.

How fast does Permabond TA4204 cure?

TA4204 is a fast curing methacrylate adhesive that begins to set shortly after mixing. It cures at room temperature and develops handling strength quickly, making it suitable for workshop use, production work and structural repairs.

Is Permabond TA4204 a structural adhesive?

Yes, TA4204 is designed for structural bonding where high strength, durability and impact resistance are required. It is commonly used for brackets, panels, housings, composite parts and engineering assemblies.

What is the difference between TA4204 and TA4205?

TA4204 is the faster curing version, while TA4205 provides a longer working time.
Both offer similar strength, but TA4204 is better for quick assembly and production work, while TA4205 is easier to use on larger or more complex parts.

Does Permabond TA4204 fill gaps?

Yes, TA4204 has good gap filling properties and can fill gaps up to approximately 3mm. This allows it to bond parts that are not perfectly flush, making it suitable for fabrication and repair work.

Can TA4204 bond metal to plastic or composite?

Yes, methacrylate adhesives like TA4204 are designed for bonding dissimilar materials. They are widely used for metal to plastic, plastic to composite, and composite to metal bonding in automotive, marine and engineering applications.

Does Permabond TA4204 require a dispensing gun?

Yes, the 400ml cartridge requires a suitable dispensing gun and static mixer nozzle to ensure the correct 1:1 mix ratio. The adhesive can also be applied bead-on-bead for certain workshop applications.

Can Permabond TA4204 be used for automotive or marine repairs?

Yes, TA4204 is widely used in automotive, marine and industrial applications for bonding panels, brackets, GRP parts, composite components and structural assemblies where high strength and durability are required.

How should surfaces be prepared before using TA4204?

For best results, surfaces should be clean, dry and free from oil or grease. Light abrasion can improve bond strength, especially on metals and plastics, although TA4204 often bonds well with minimal preparation.
