Description
Permabond A1046 High Strength Retaining Compound
Permabond A1046 is a rapid curing, high strength anaerobic retaining compound developed to permanently bond cylindrical metal assemblies. Designed for engineering, manufacturing and maintenance applications, it secures bearings, bushes, gears, pulleys, shafts, sleeves and other close-fitting metal components while preventing movement caused by vibration, shock and dynamic loading.
Unlike mechanical retaining methods, Permabond A1046 fills microscopic gaps between mating metal surfaces, creating a strong polymer bond that distributes stresses evenly across the assembly. This improves joint reliability, reduces wear and helps protect against fretting corrosion.
Its toughened acrylic formulation also performs exceptionally well when bonding dissimilar metals, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments where long-term durability is essential.
Typical Applications
Permabond A1046 is ideal for retaining:
- Bearings
- Bushes
- Sleeves
- Gears
- Pulleys
- Shafts
- Cylindrical metal inserts
- Threaded metal components
- Press-fit assemblies
- Slip-fit assemblies
Suitable for use across automotive, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, agricultural machinery, electric motors, pumps and general engineering.
Key Benefits
- High strength retaining compound
- Fast curing anaerobic technology
- Toughened formulation for improved durability
- Excellent vibration resistance
- Helps prevent fretting corrosion
- Suitable for bonding dissimilar metals
- Relaxes machining tolerances
- Eliminates the need for mechanical locking devices in many applications
- Green colour for easy identification
- UV fluorescent for inspection after application
Important Information
Permabond A1046 is designed exclusively for close-fitting metal assemblies.
For optimum performance:
- ✔ Both mating components must be metallic.
- ✔ Maximum gap should not exceed 0.25 mm (0.01″), with close-fitting joints providing the best results.
- ✔ It is not suitable for bonding plastics, rubber, wood or composite materials.
- ✔ Full cure is typically achieved within 24 hours, although handling strength is usually reached within 5 to 10 minutes on active metals.
For stainless steel, plated metals or other inactive substrates, using Permabond A905 Anaerobic Activator can significantly reduce cure times.
Suitable Materials
Designed for:
- Steel
- Stainless steel
- Aluminium
- Brass
- Bronze
- Cast iron
Typical Uses
Permabond A1046 is commonly used for:
- Bearing retention
- Shaft repairs
- Bush installation
- Pulley mounting
- Gear assembly
- Preventing spinning bearings
- Restoring worn cylindrical fits
- Industrial equipment maintenance
Why Choose Permabond A1046?
Mechanical interference fits can loosen over time due to vibration, thermal cycling and wear. Permabond A1046 creates a permanent retaining bond that increases assembly strength while sealing against corrosion and microscopic movement.
Its rapid cure, high strength and excellent durability make it an ideal choice for engineers, maintenance teams and manufacturers looking to improve the reliability of cylindrical metal assemblies.
