Description

ITW Plexus PC-120 Metal Primer 900ml

Primer for Methacrylate Adhesives to Enhance Bond Strength on Metals

ITW Plexus PC-120 metal primer is a high-performance chemical primer and surface conditioner designed to significantly improve the long-term durability and corrosion resistance of methacrylate adhesive bonds on aluminium and stainless steel.

Without a primer, metal adhesive bonds can fail over time due to moisture and corrosion at the interface.

Specifically developed for use with Plexus methacrylate structural adhesives, PC-120 enhances adhesion at the metal interface, helping to protect bonded assemblies against the damaging effects of water and salt ingress—two of the main causes of long-term bond failure in metal structures. For a full breakdown of structural bonding, see our structural adhesives UK guide.

The primer is fast drying at ambient temperature, allowing parts to be bonded just 1–3 minutes after application, making it ideal for high-throughput production and repair environments.

  • ✔️ Compatible with MA300, MA310, MA420, MA830
  • ✔️ Not limited to one adhesive
  • ✔️ Used when environmental resistance matters

✅ Key Features & Benefits

  • Designed for aluminium & stainless steel bonding

  • Improves long-term durability of Plexus adhesive bonds

  • Excellent resistance to water & salt attack

  • Fast drying – bond after just 1–3 minutes

  • Ideal for marine, automotive & industrial environments

  • Can be applied by brushing, wiping or spraying

  • Red dye indicator ensures correct coverage

  • Enhances corrosion resistance at the adhesive interface

  • Supplied in a 900ml container for production use

🧪 Why Use Plexus PC-120 Primer?

Without a suitable primer, water and salt can penetrate the adhesive interface on metal assemblies, gradually weakening the bond over time. The active ingredients in PC-120 chemically condition the metal surface, allowing the methacrylate adhesive to form a stronger, more corrosion-resistant bond that withstands long-term environmental exposure, including saltwater conditions. This makes PC-120 particularly valuable for:

  • Marine fabrication

  • Automotive structures

  • Outdoor metal assemblies

  • Industrial equipment exposed to moisture

🛠 Application Method

  • Apply by brushing, wiping, or spraying

  • The red dye indicator shows which areas have been treated

  • ✅ Apply only a thin red film

    • If a strong red tint is visible, too much primer has been applied

  • Allow to dry for 1–3 minutes at ambient temperature

  • Once dry, the parts are ready to bond immediately

🏗 Typical Applications

  • Aluminium bonding with methacrylate adhesives

  • Stainless steel adhesive assembly

  • Marine metal structures

  • Vehicle frames and panels

  • Outdoor industrial fabrications

  • Corrosion-resistant bonded joints

✅ Why Choose ITW Plexus PC-120 metal primer?

Plexus PC-120 is the professional solution when you need:

  • Maximum bond durability on metals

  • Improved resistance to salt water & corrosion

  • Fast, production-ready priming

  • Reliable performance in harsh environments

🔍 Do I Really Need a Metal Primer?

Using ITW Plexus PC-120 Metal Primer before applying a methacrylate adhesive can dramatically improve long-term bond reliability, especially in wet or corrosive environments.
