Application Instructions

Surface Preparation

  1. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contamination.

  2. Degrease with the appropriate ARBO® Cleaner.

  3. For surface preparation, consider using a suitable adhesion primer for porous substrates.

How to Apply

  1. Cut open the 600ml foil pack and load into an ARBO® Foil Pack Gun.

  2. Apply adhesive in 8mm beads, spaced approx. 25mm apart, to one substrate only.

  3. Press the membrane firmly onto the adhesive using a roller or suitable tool.

  4. Do not apply below +5°C or where relative humidity is below 40%.

 EPDM Membrane Adhesive FAQs

What is EPDM membrane adhesive used for?

EPDM membrane adhesive is used to bond EPDM rubber membranes to substrates such as aluminium, PVCu, steel and mineral surfaces. It creates a flexible, watertight seal for roofing, façade and construction applications.

What adhesive is best for EPDM membrane?

A high-strength, flexible membrane adhesive like Arbo membrane adhesive is ideal for EPDM bonding. It provides strong adhesion while allowing movement, making it suitable for expansion joints and external applications.

Can EPDM membrane be glued to metal?

Yes, EPDM membrane can be bonded to metal surfaces such as aluminium, galvanised steel and coated metals using a suitable EPDM membrane adhesive. Proper surface preparation is essential for maximum bond strength.

Can you bond EPDM to PVC or uPVC?

Yes, EPDM membranes can be bonded to PVC and uPVC using a compatible membrane adhesive. Ensure surfaces are clean and free from contaminants before application.

Do I need a primer for EPDM membrane adhesive?

In many cases, primer is not required for non-porous surfaces. However, for porous substrates such as concrete or mineral boards, a suitable adhesion primer may be recommended to improve bond strength.

Is EPDM membrane adhesive waterproof?

Yes, once cured, EPDM membrane adhesive forms a waterproof and weather-resistant bond suitable for external use, including roofing and façade sealing.

How long does EPDM membrane adhesive take to cure?

EPDM membrane adhesive typically skins over in around 15 minutes and cures at approximately 2mm per 24 hours, depending on temperature and humidity.

Can EPDM adhesive handle movement?

Yes, EPDM membrane adhesive remains flexible after curing, allowing it to accommodate structural movement, expansion and contraction without cracking.

What temperature can EPDM membrane adhesive withstand?

Once cured, EPDM membrane adhesive typically withstands temperatures from around -40°C to +120°C, making it suitable for external and industrial environments.
