Description
Permabond ET5424 is a high temperature epoxy adhesive designed for structural bonding where strength and heat resistance are essential. It cures at room temperature to form strong bonds between materials including aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel and reinforced composites.
Its ability to retain strength at elevated temperatures makes ET5424 a useful option for assemblies that will undergo powder coating or paint stoving after bonding. The cured adhesive can also be painted.
Originally developed for aerospace applications, ET5424 has a low-outgassing formulation that meets ECSS-Q-ST-70-02C thermal outgassing requirements. Its performance also suits automotive manufacturing and a wide range of industrial bonding applications.
Key benefits
High temperature performance
Offers temperature resistance up to 230°C with good strength retention at elevated temperatures.
Suitable for powder coating and paint stoving
Can be used for bonded assemblies that subsequently pass through a paint bake process. Suitability should be checked against the actual oven temperature, dwell time and loading on the joint.
An alternative to welding for suitable assemblies
Distributes stresses across the bonded area and can create a continuous sealed joint. It also avoids the local heat input associated with welding.
Time for accurate assembly
A long open time allows components to be positioned and aligned before the adhesive sets.
Room temperature cure
Develops working strength in approximately 24 hours, with full cure in 3–5 days at 23°C. Heat can accelerate curing.
Low outgassing
Meets ECSS-Q-ST-70-02C requirements for thermal outgassing.
Suitable materials
- Aluminium
- Mild steel
- Stainless steel
- Carbon fibre
- Fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP)
- Other suitable composite materials
Test adhesion on the actual materials and surface finishes before production use.
Typical applications
- Metal fabrication and structural assembly
- Components undergoing powder coating
- Assemblies exposed to paint stoving or bake cycles
- Automotive metal and composite bonding
- Aerospace bonding applications requiring low outgassing
- Suitable joints where adhesive bonding can replace welding

Application guidance
Use a compatible dispensing system for the 400ml, 4:1 cartridge and a suitable static mixing nozzle. Prepare the bonding surfaces and dispense the adhesive in accordance with the current Permabond technical datasheet.
Position the components and support the assembly during curing. Allow sufficient cure before applying loads or exposing the joint to elevated temperatures.
